1299: Put your needs on the table
Today we're taking a pause to consider our needs and how we can meet them this weekend and go into Monday with a fuller cup!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Friday to you. We made it. And one of the things we tend to not do at the end of the week is look at how far we've come. I know from my own experience of being myself and also working with hundreds of creative, multi passionate women that we tend to do something, finish something, and immediately move on to the next thing. We don't tend to take the time to appreciate and celebrate what we've done. We're already looking towards a new shiny thing without paying much attention to the time and the energy and the sheer effort that went into doing the thing. Now when I'm talking about doing the thing, I'm not necessarily talking about finishing some huge project. I'm talking about all the things that we finish on a regular basis. So that could be like, for example, today finishing the week. It can also be having that hard conversation, sending that difficult email.
It can be returning to a project, and it can be a billion of different small things. It can often be hard for us to recognize that we finished anything or to be proud of ourselves, So let me put it in a different way. What are you really glad that's over? What is something that you've dealt with lately that you are really glad is behind you? Or what is something that felt really good to get off your list? So I invite you to press pause and note down a couple of things or to think about it as you go about your day to day and find a way to really acknowledge it and celebrate it. That could be as simple as sharing it with somebody else. It could look like taking yourself out for coffee and cake, or it can simply feel like that little sparkle and that little buzz of getting something done. What I'm trying to say is give yourself that gift. Let yourself appreciate what you have done just for a little moment. Because what tends to happen otherwise is that we go from thing to thing to thing, and life just feels like a big chore.
We don't feel like we're getting anywhere. It feels really frustrating. It feels really unsatisfying. We end up feeling exhausted and beating ourselves up. And we live in this narrative of ourselves where we're never getting anything done, things always feel hard. And we're completely ignoring the fact that this very true story exists, that we are people that get shit done, we do show up for ourselves, and we have a lot to be proud of. So take the time for yourself today. Let's flip the narrative and tell ourselves a much truer story, and let's acknowledge our wins because, honestly, hand on my heart, you have wins to celebrate.
Happy Friday, my loves. We made it. I can't wait to be back with you in your inbox on Sunday if you're part of my letters of rebellion community, and you can find out more about how to join that by going to the rebelrousers.com/letters or back in your fabulous ears on Monday morning. Take impeccable care of yourself this weekend, and remember as always that everything changes when you believe you matter.

1297: Assume they don’t know
I’m sharing some unconventional life advice I learned through a high school teacher’s instructions on how to approach exams!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Wednesday to you. It is hump day. We are over halfway through the week. And as you're listening to this, me and mister Meg will be at our second dog training session, which really is more about training us than training Merlin. So wish us luck. Now when I was in school, one of the best pieces of advice I was given when it comes to taking exams or doing any kind of assessments is to assume that the examiner or the assessor knows nothing about the subject or the topic you're writing about. Now, obviously, that's not true, but the idea was really start with the basics and say the obvious stuff. Don't make assumptions about what you think they know. And I think there is so much that we can take forward from this in terms of life advice and life wisdom.
This might not make any sense, so bear with me. We're gonna get there. If we are socialized as women, chances are we have also been socialized to play small to put everybody else's needs ahead of our own. And the idea of actually asserting what we want or stating our needs can be seen as bold or selfish at best or arrogant at worst. And I think one of the side effects of this is that so often, we can go about life not really saying what we need. And sometimes, I know this is definitely true for me, I just assume that it's a bit bloody obvious. And sometimes I expect people to be a bit of a mind reader. We've all had those kind of mini or big arguments where it all comes down to the other person simply didn't know all the things that you assumed they would have figured out or known anyway.
And I think sometimes it is really helpful, even if it is pretty fucking uncomfortable, to go back to that life advice that we can take from exams and really state the obvious. Now asking for our needs or putting our needs on the table can be really scary because there is often the very real factor that they might not be fulfilled. There is also sometimes the fact that we don't know what would have happened had we asked. Now huge caveat here. Sometimes we don't put our needs on the table or ask because we know the person, we know how they make us feel, and we just have a gut feeling. I am not telling you to go against them. I am all about self preservation. And this is about being discerning of where you practice this.
And my advice on where to begin is with the really little things, is with the things that aren't a big deal, and you might be really pleasantly surprised. So have a think about any areas of your life right now, perhaps some annoying little areas where maybe you're assuming people know what you want when actually they might not even if they should, and give it a try. And a final reminder from me, it is not selfish or arrogant to have needs and to put them on the table. You are allowed to ask for what you want. You are allowed to want things, and that simply makes you human. I hope you find some unexpected joy today. I hope somebody does read your mind and do something really kind for you, and I hope you take a small chance as well. I'll see you tomorrow.

1296: Be an adequate plate spinner
If you struggle to see how well you ARE doing and if you often lose sight of the bigger picture, this one’s for you!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Tuesday to you. So I wanted to pop in today with a reminder that I think so many of us need to hear, yet very few of us rarely believe in our heart of hearts if we're gonna get really cheesy to be true. And that is this idea that you are doing your best and you're doing alright. Now for so many of us when we hear that, all we can think of is the things that we haven't done, the things that we could do better, and all the ways that things are going to shit. And that is a totally human reaction. A bit like we were talking about yesterday, our brains are hardwired to find the risks and to see the negative, So it's no wonder that all of those things come up. Also, let's face it. Being a human and all the things that that involves is quite a lot.
At any one point, we probably have life admin that we need to be focusing on. We have people that we need to reply to, and we have a running list of things that we don't wanna forget, which chances are we might forget some of them because we are only human, and our brains can only hold so much stuff. And the amount of information that we take in and have to handle on a daily basis is new to all of us. Never before have our ancestors had to deal with so much information and just stuff. So if we take our personal expectation bar down slightly and realize that we're human and there are probably always gonna be things that we need to do. And there will be things that we naturally forget. And at some point, we are gonna drop one of our plates or multiple of our plates. And instead, we look at what we have done and what we do have on our plate, then we might see ourselves through a slightly kinder lens.
If you were describing everything you've got going on right now to a friend, chances are their response would be a combination of fucking hell, maybe not a sweary perhaps, and some reassurance about look how well you're doing with everything you've got going on. As I've been thinking about spinning our plates, I've got to thinking that, actually, I want a big, bold, beautiful life that feels authentic to me and that aligns with my values. And I don't wanna be the world's best plate spinner because if I am, that is where all my energy goes. And I would miss out on so much cool shit and doing so many creative projects and so many experiences. And I'm actually okay with being an adequate plate spinner. And just saying that feels like quite a lot of relief. And as you're listening, you might be feeling that, actually, you're okay with being an adequate plate spinner too. So as you go about your day to day, have a think about where you're trying to be the world's best plate spinner and where you can just be human.
When it comes to trying your best, your best will look different every day. And also, there are some tasks that don't need to have you at a % capacity because they really don't matter that much. And you doing your best is figuring out how much attention and focus you wanna give it and only giving it that much so you can spend your energy, time, and focus on where you really want to. So here's to getting a bit more okay with dropping the plates, with knowing that some of them bounce and that some of them never needed to be there in the first place. And here's to living a fabulous, wholehearted life and not just attempting to be the world's best plate spinner, because that would be pretty fucking boring. Have a good one, and I'll see you tomorrow.

1295: The art of noticing
We’re kicking off a new week of The Daily Pep! with a challenge to help us weather the storm and notice the joys in hard times (even when that feels impossible).
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Monday to to you. So I thought we would kick off this week on the Daily Pep with a bit of a challenge, which is also very micro, very doable, but also could make a massive difference to your week. For many of us, it can be really easy to get sucked into doomscrolling. And when we look around us in terms of the news and what's going on in the world, well, it's some really heavy shit to put it mildly and can leave us in this place of existential dread and wondering what is the point. So for today's episode, we are really leaning heavily onto the improv concept of yes, and. And that's the idea that parallel things can be true at the same time. So my challenge for you this week, and I'm gonna be joining in too, is to create a note on your phone or a section in a notepad or sketch pad if you carry one around with you all the time, and title it something like tiny joys or cool shit. And the idea is that for every day this week, try and record one little thing that either made you smile, made you take notice, or was a moment of delight or beauty.
This could be as simple as noticing some flowers popping up somewhere, actually hearing some birdsong, or it could be that you didn't bump into your shitty coworker, or that thing that you've been absolutely dreading turned out a lot better than you thought it would. And the idea here is to simply get into the practice of noticing. We've all got a built in negativity bias. We tend to see the world through shit tinted lenses, and it is a survival thing. But I think particularly at the moment, it is not very helpful. And I know for me, I absolutely need some training in the other direction. Now there are quite a few different ways you could do this. Like I said, it could be to put one thing on that list every day this week, or it could be about when you feel you're about to doomscroll or check the news again for the billionth time.
Opening that note instead and finding something to put on it. Now this is not about toxic positivity and denying what is going on in the world, but it is about keeping us sane. There are many things in the world that we don't have control over, and I think a lot of us are feeling quite powerless. But I really believe that joy can be a rebellious and radical act. So go for it in the easiest way you can think of doing it. And my hope is for all of us that this noticing can start filling up that bit of brain space, which is maybe getting a bit scary. That this is a way of adding a little bit of joy to our lives and to leaning into that yes and of, yes, things feel really hard and are really hard, and we're also alive, and there are tiny joys all around us. So give it a go, see how it works for you, put your own twist on it, and here's to a week where we notice unexpected joys and delights. I'll see you tomorrow.

1292: Let's tackle that annoying part of the week
We all have a part of the week we dread and wish could be better. So today, we're doing something about it!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Wednesday to you, and a very happy hump day to you. So round about the middle of the week, we tend to think about how the week's been going so far. And usually, what's frustrating us about the week. And, also, it can be how much we're looking forward to Friday being here already. So I thought we'd do something fun this Wednesday and really get specific about a part of the week that you would like to change. So I think for all of us, we tend to have one part of the week where if we could tweak it slightly, our whole week would be much better. And for me, that is Sunday evenings. In an ideal world, I would spend at least part of a Sunday evening actually resting, filling my cup, and not feeling seriously behind.
But part of the issue is when we frame things in the context of in an ideal world, we are already convincing ourselves that that can never happen. So on the Sunday just gone, I sat down and actually got curious about it. What would it take for that to be true? What are things that I can do maybe the day before or during the week that would really safeguard that time and that could possibly mean that I start Monday feeling less bedraggled and more rested and way less overwhelmed. So for me, this looked like sitting down and figuring out, okay, what is it about a Sunday evening? What are the tasks that I put off? What are the things that I basically spend all day Sunday putting off until the last minute? That just piss me off in the evening. Now I realized two things. Number one is that I have to do these things anyway, and they always get done. And number two is that it wouldn't require a ginormous amount of effort on my part just to do those things at a slightly different time. But the benefits themselves would be absolutely enormous.
So I invite you to really think about your own life and think about a particular point in the week that really frustrates you or a point in your week where you would really, really benefit from a little bit more time or space. Now I know this isn't easy. I know we all have pretty complicated lives, and also that managing our calendars can be similar to solving a really complicated maths equation. But I also know that our brains are hardwired for creativity and problem solving. And while it might not be the perfect solution, and also we're not looking for perfect here, If we can make that part of your week that you dread even 40% better, future you would be so grateful for it. So as I've been sharing my own frustrations and my own kind of rethinking of Sunday nights, you've probably been thinking about a particular part of your week too. And I really encourage you just to kinda noodle on it and also not to dismiss the things that you wish existed in an ideal world, Not to use them as something that's never gonna happen, but perhaps use them as inspiration in terms of how can you infuse your life with those different things. Because we all deserve a creative and fulfilling life that we love.
And a huge part of that is showing up for ourselves and putting ourselves back on the list. And we get to do that, and we all have permission to do it imperfectly. So get thinking, and here's to that shitty part of your week feeling 40% better and reclaiming the week. Happy hump day, and I'll see you tomorrow.

1291: Progress isn't linear
If you feel like you aren't getting anywhere or you're doing something wrong, today's episode is for you!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Tuesday to you. So one of the things I'm working hard on in my own life right now is dog training. We have our fabulous cockapoo, Merlin. And he is a, to put it lightly, a bundle of energy. And I think not only our lives, but also his life could be improved with some more boundaries. So we are firmly in the grips of dog training. And I'm gonna be honest, it is equal parts rewarding and frustrating. But it has really reminded me of something that I've needed to hear and I think you might need to hear as well.
And it's progress isn't always linear. At the start of a project, we can get really excited, and there's all the energy and enthusiasm there. And we tend to start seeing results pretty quickly in terms of let's take a basic example of if we're doing a painting, we quickly go from nothing is on the blank page to something is on the blank page. And that feels really good because it feels like we're doing something. But as time goes on and we get more into the process, it can feel a bit harder. We can get stuck in the weeds. We also tend to make mistakes, which is a completely natural part of the process, and we can feel like we're not making much progress. I know the same is true for training Merlin.
That first week, we were giddy with excitement, and it was feeling really novel. And he was also making really, really quick progress, and I think all of us were feeling good. Now three weeks into it, it feels like this sometimes he wakes up and decides he's not gonna listen, and it is not feeling as shiny and new anymore. But that doesn't mean there's not progress. As frustrated as we can get by it, if we take a moment and reflect, we can also see that he is so much further ahead than he was when he started. But it can be really hard to see that because the goalpost has moved, and you know more about what you didn't know to begin with. So for today's daily pep, I simply wanted to give you some encouragement and just a reassurance and a reminder that progress isn't linear, and that's just a natural fact. That doesn't mean that you're doing anything wrong, and it can also be frustrating.
And that's okay too, and that doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong either. My encouragement for both of us is to really note the small wins and celebrate the fuck out of them, to remember just how far you've come and to think about the resistance beforehand and what your beliefs about what were possible and see where you are right now. And also just to focus on the showing up every day in whatever minuscule way you can, and try not to be comparing where you are all the time to the end goal. The big picture can really help in terms of the bigger why and our motivation, but let's not use it as a stick to beat ourselves with. So here's to making wonky progress on all of our journeys. Here's to being fucking proud of ourselves for showing up in the first place. And here's to doing the tiny steps, tiny, tiny, tiny steps every day. We've got this.

1290: Manage your energy, not just your time
We all live busy, complicated lives, and it can be so easy to get caught up in time management that we forget entirely a HUGELY important part of the equation: energy management.
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Monday to you. As we start any new week, we tend to be thinking about what we've got on our plate, and also whether we'll have the time, or let's face it, the fucks to be able to do it. But there tends to be one thing we massively tend to overlook and underestimate, and that's energy management. We tend to focus on time management in terms of, do we have enough time? How are we gonna fit things in? The logistics of when things are gonna happen. But we tend not to think as much about energy management. Now there are life context where we might tend to naturally have to think about this more, for example, if you've got a chronic illness. And I just wanna acknowledge the fact that energy management can be really, really frustrating. But it can also be a compassionate way of really helping us understand how to get done the things that really matter to us.
We all have pretty loud dream shitters around here, and I know that I can start a day and get really excited in the morning about all the things I'm gonna do after work and get excited about the projects and the ideas I wanna work on. And when I get to the end of the day, I can be exhausted. And rather than acknowledging the fact that I've actually spent a lot of my energy for the day, I immediately and also automatically tend to stop beating myself up and questioning why I had so much energy and enthusiasm for it in the morning and why I can't do it now. And my dream shitter likes to convince myself it's because I'm a lazy person, and I never had any intention to follow through in the first place. And I massively apologize if your dream shitter sounds similar because it fucking sucks. So as you go about this week, it might just be helpful to take a mental note or take a note on your phone or journal about it. What activities and what things drain your energy the most, and what give you the most energy? And, also, just to look at your calendar, and rather than seeing any blank space, if you have any, as time to be productive and get shit done, see it as time where you could potentially recuperate some of that energy or just give yourself permission not to go a % all the time. Now managing your time and your energy is a complicated and nuanced thing because all of our lives look wildly different.
And that's okay. It doesn't mean you're doing it wrong. And if this is something that piques your interest and is something that you would like to dive in deeper rebel style, last year, I did one of my solo adventures around here. So the my solo adventures are kind of DIY digital mini retreats where we really dive into a particular area of personal development, cut away the bullshit, and really learn to work with ourselves rather than against ourselves, and find our own way of doing it. If you wanna find out more about my solo adventure all about managing your time and energy, you can go to the rebelrousers.com/timeandenergy. That's all one word, and I've also put the link in the show notes. And that one is really about helping you throw the bullshit toxic productivity out of the window and finding a new way that acknowledges that life is fucking messy and helps you find your own flavor and strategies for dealing with time and energy management in a way that works for you and your context. So just wanted to put that out there in case today's episode particularly resonated with you.
Here's to knowing that you are not lazy, that you're not doing anything wrong, that life can be pretty fucking exhausting, and you also get to spend your best energy on yourself. That is not selfish. 1289: Pause, recognise, celebrate
When was the last time you acknowledged or shared a win? If it’s been a while, you’re in for a treat!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Friday to you. So I wanna kick off today's episode with a question. When is the last time you acknowledged one of your wins or you shared one of your wins? Now we know that around here, we are excellent at doing many, many things, but we are not quite so excellent at recognizing the amazing shit that we do. So often, we move from one thing straight to the next and don't really take the moment to acknowledge what we've done, let alone celebrate, and we don't even think about sharing it with somebody. So as you listen to this, I want you to think of one win you've had lately. Now it does not have to be massive. It does not have to be particularly profound. It can be absolutely tiny.
But take a second to acknowledge something that you've done. And if you want some extra brave points, go share it with somebody who supports you. Because I don't know about you, but I fucking love hearing about the things that my loved ones have been up to. And I love celebrating their own wins. And I celebrate them as if they were my own because I'm so genuinely thrilled for them and know that other people like doing that too. So think about one win you've had, see if you can celebrate it yourself, and if you want those brave points, dare to share. If you're thinking of a win and your dream shitter is telling you or reminding you of all the things you haven't done, Maybe try and make you win something that was unexpected that you didn't plan to do in the first place as a way of saying a bit of a fuck you to your dream shitter because you do do shit. You are trying your best, and you have a whole lot of shit to give yourself credit for.
Take a moment for yourself and remember that everything changes when you believe you matter. See you back here bright and early on Monday morning and in your inbox on Sunday if you're part of my email community. If you're not, know that I send out some really encouraging shit, the behind the scenes stuff I don't share anywhere else, and a good old bit of rebel rising that really does help with Sunday scaries. 1287: 3 permission slips for living in a wonky a** world
TL;DR, if the best you're doing is surviving right now, you're doing a damn good job.
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Wednesday to you. It is hump day. We are nearly halfway through the week. And if you are riding the struggle bus or if things are feeling a bit hard at the moment, this one is for you. So it does not take a genius to figure out right now that the world feels a bit like a shit show. And that's not to mention, you know, we've got everything going on globally, but we've also got busy lives where we are regularly dealing with hope and heartbreak. And it can be simply exhausting, and I don't think we give ourselves credit for that. It is so easy to get to the end of the day to spend a bunch of time doom scrolling and thinking about all the things we didn't do, and we automatically start beating ourselves up or pledging to be, improved version of ourselves tomorrow.
But the reality is sometimes it takes all of our effort to survive. Sometimes we simply have to be in maintenance mode. And for each of us, there is time for striving, and there's also time for surviving. And maybe a lot of the time, we're living with one foot in one and one foot in the other. But today, I just wanted to give you permission to take some things off your plate. So permission slip number one. You do not always have to be your best self, and you don't always have to be improving. Sometimes the most courageous thing can be getting through and not trying to optimize everything.
Sometimes we just need to preserve our energy as much as we can, knowing things are harder than usual. Things might be taking a lot more out of us than usual, and that doesn't make you a lazy person. Permission step number two. It is okay to be grumpy and really pissed off, and it is okay to be unproductively grumpy and pissed off. I know we're seeing a lot out there about kind of putting your rage into good causes, and I think there is absolutely need for that. But you are also allowed to metaphorically stamp your feet in the puddle and say this is a shit show and let yourself be there for a while. Now the important thing here is not to set up camp and live there, but I do think it is important to give ourselves time to feel the things. If you've been around here a while, you will know that I am absolutely against good vibes only and toxic positivity because I don't think suppressing that stuff does us any good.
It can also mean that we belittle what we go through, and I don't think that helps either. On the other hand, though, if you are feeling quite numb to everything, that is okay too. Let's not add on our shoulders guilt about not feeling a certain way. We all react to things differently, and it's also okay to be selective about what things we consume right now and who we surround ourselves with. And permission step number three, keep finding the tiny joys. I am a huge believer that joy is a massive act of rebellion. And I think in many ways, one of the most rebellious and courageous things we can do is find ways to keep our own lights lit and keep finding beauty in the world. The really good byproduct of that is that joy tends to be contagious, so that is a way of making a difference.
But I just really wanna emphasize here, it is finding the tiny joyful things for yourself first and letting the byproduct occur naturally. If this is one you do struggle with and you struggle to do things just for yourself, it may be worth focusing on the spreading joy and the sharing joy because that's the way you're gonna get it too. So if that is how you need to do it and that's how you access hope, then go for it. So that is my pep talk for today. Three permission slips for living in a wonky ass world. Keep going. You're doing better than you think. And if, quote, all you can do is survive, you are doing a fucking good job. See you tomorrow.

1286: If you’re faced with a problem…
Sometimes staring at a problem is neither fruitful or productive, today I’m sharing two approaches that I find really help!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Tuesday to you. Now it is fair to say a lot of us spend a lot of time in our heads. We spend a lot of time trying to fix problems, trying to come up with different solutions, thinking of ways to improve things. And for me, I get pretty stubborn and try and stare down a problem until I know what to do. But the thing is that doesn't always work. There are many times I've got myself way more frustrated, overwhelmed, and wound up because I'm just looking at it and looking at it, and nothing is changing. And then I just start to freak out more. So if you've got a problem that you're trying to fix or something that you're mulling over that you just can't get to the bottom of or you feel like the answer is just out of reach, I really recommend doing something that takes very little brainpower and almost intentionally try not to think about the thing.
Some of our best ideas come in the shower. Sometimes we'll have a light bulb moment while we're doing the washing up and tidying up can really lead to some breakthroughs. So for today's daily pep, I just want to remind you that sometimes staring down the problem isn't actually that fruitful or productive. An example I can give of this is yesterday, I had no idea what to do yesterday's daily pep on, but I realized that my fan had been collecting a lot of dust. So I took it apart, gave it a good wipe down, and I figured that while I was doing that, I would probably think of something and I did. And it was really two birds with one scone. I came up with an idea for the episode and also my fan now works a lot better than the existential dread and the fear that can come with just staring down at the proverbial blank page. So try this on for size, but if you feel like you really, really have to solve the issue right now, one of the things I do recommend doing is writing down a list of 20 different ways you could solve the problem.
Our brains are hardwired for creativity and problem solving, and when it starts to get hard, then we come up with the wacky ideas and sometimes they are the best. So whatever is on your mind today, take one of these for a test drive and see how it goes. I can't wait to be back here bright and early as always tomorrow morning. And in the meantime, remember that everything changes when you believe you matter.

1285: Teeth, tablets and habit stacking
If like me you find habits a bit tricky, today I’m sharing my latest quirky - but effective! - experiment.
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Monday to you. So to kick off this week, I thought I would share with you something seemingly silly, but also really helpful that I've been discovering about habit building. So one of the things that I find the hardest to do is to take my morning medication. I can't tell you why, but it feels nearly impossible. Every day, I swear I get better, and I simply don't until recently. So like many of you, I've heard of habit stacking. And the idea is attaching a habit that you want to form to something that you already do. But the problem has been in my case that there aren't a huge amount of established habits to stack anything onto.
But then I wondered, what if I just take the word habit out of the equation and just simply think about the things that I have to do every day that I'm gonna get done no matter what? And one of those things for me is putting in my front tooth denture. I don't feel confident without it in. I won't leave the house without it. I won't do a call without it. So I know it is something that I do every single day. So I started this experiment of, what if I make this kind of rule for myself of I can't put my teeth in until I've taken my tablets? And I love a bit of alliteration, so I love that they both started with t. And we are now three and a half weeks into the experiment, and I can tell you I have not missed a tablet any of those days. And that might not sound a huge amount to you, but for me, that's a fucking miracle.
There are some medications that I've been on for about seventeen years, and I have never been this consistent. So I share this today as an invitation for you to try it out yourself, to attach something that you want to do to something that you have to do, not in a kind of punishing way, but just a way of trying out whether it works. I'm not gonna lie. I didn't have high hopes for my front tooth and tablet habit because I've tried many things, but this just seems to have stuck. And I've now reached that sweet spot where I take my tablets without much thought at all. Now I know not all of us have front tooth dentures, but I'm pretty sure, though no judgment if you don't, most of us put on knickers or some kind of underwear every day. So have a think about how this looks in your life. Think about the things that you have to do or you do every single day regardless, and see how you compare it with something you really want to do.
See if you can keep both things to a similar length of time so it doesn't feel like too big of an ask. Get creative and find some alliteration if you can. And, also, just a quick reminder that we all have different flavors of hard. For me, taking tablets is incredibly difficult. To somebody else, they wouldn't bat an eye. And something that perhaps I do without batting my eyes, somebody else finds really difficult. And that's okay. We're all humans.
We all have our own quirks. So less judgment, and your dream shitter is not welcome here. So try it on for size. Have a fabulous start to the week, and I'll see you tomorrow.

1279: In praise of boring self-care
When we talk about self-care we tend to think about the fun, nice parts, but we can often face a lot of resistance to the boring - but essential - side to it. So today I've got a bossy one for you!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Friday to you. It is the end of the week. We made it. And if you do miss your dose of rebel rousing and encouragement on the weekend, and you're not already part of my Letters of Rebellion email community, please come on over. Every week on a Sunday, I share really helpful, unconventional, and practical shit about building a life you love and the very real and very vulnerable bits of my own journey of creating a life I love that I don't share anywhere else in the hopes of helping you build yours. If we're not already email friends, head over to the rebelrousers.com forward slash letters to come join us. So for today's daily pep, it is gonna be a bit of a funny one because I just wanna simply remind us all to make sure we're doing the boring self care. When we think of self care, we tend to think of all the nice things.
We think of all the books, all the journaling. But if you're anything like me, you might have a bit of resistance related to the more boring aspects of it, e. G, getting enough sleep, taking medication, and organizing things like doctor's appointments. And I think so many of us struggle with this. In my group program, one one buying club, we get together and co work three times a week. And one of the things we've got into a really good habit of is sharing in the chat when we've taken medication as a reminder for everybody else to do the same too. And my goodness, it is so helpful because there can be resistance. Also, life is very busy and we can genuinely forget.
And for some of us, it can be all too easy just to not do the thing. And I also get the pushback of not wanting to do the thing but having to do the thing. Since being on insulin, I don't have a choice not to take it. And believe me, even though I am wildly grateful that I have it and it exists, I also sometimes get really pissed off that I have to factor it in. So if you have a chronic health condition where you don't have the option not to do it, then give yourself a bit of extra love for that too. So take today's episode as your sign to go pick up your prescription, go book your doctor's appointment, go take your medication, or have a think about how you can get more sleep. While it might not be the most fun part of self care, it is probably one of the most essential parts of self care, and it's also part of what helps us keep going with doing the wonderful and weird shit that we do. So that is my slightly bossy daily prep for you to end this week.
I can't wait to back in your ears on Monday or in your inbox on Sunday. And if you did wanna join my email community, head to the link in the show notes. Have a good one and remember as always that everything changes when you believe you matter.

1277: Check the evidence
Sometimes the stories we tell ourselves our cruel and we can make wild assumptions about how 'terribly' we're doing, so today we're checking the actual evidence!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Wednesday to you. It is hump day, and I'm here with a sassy one with a reminder that I think all of us might just need to hear. So I think it's fair to say that we are not necessarily the best people at evaluating our own success or acknowledging our own wins. We tend to be a bit of an unreliable narrator, and it is all too easy to focus on what we haven't done and to completely bypass all of our wins and just move on to the next thing. Doctor Brene Brown talks about this whole, what is the story that you're telling yourself? And sometimes I don't think we actually tell ourselves the truest stories. I know this was true for me back in January when I was having one of my regular business wobbles, and I made all these assumptions about how nothing was working and everything was up Schitt's Creek. But, actually, when I stopped to look at the data, there had been improvements. Things definitely weren't up Schitt's Creek.
But I was looking at entirely the wrong evidence and coming to these conclusions based on some pretty cruel stories in my own head that my inner dream shoulda just love to play on repeat. So as you go about your day to day, I simply invite you to think about the data and what evidence you're consulting and also what assumptions you're making. I'm not saying it in a toxic positivity kind of way because sometimes things are shit on toast, But I also think we give ourselves way harder of a time than is necessary, and we also tend to take on the responsibility and ownership of things disproportionate to what is actually ours to own. So whatever story you're telling yourself, let's check it for the truth. Let's see what assumptions you're making. Let's give yourself grace for whatever assumptions you're making because our brains are hardwired to find the negative. And here's to maybe, possibly, definitely acknowledging that you're doing so much better than you give yourself credit for. Happy hump day.
We're over halfway through. And for those of you joining the rebel artist way starting tomorrow, I am so fucking excited. See you soon.

1275: Look for the helpers
Today we’re kickstarting the week with a much needed dollop of hope.
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Monday to you. So I thought I would start this week's Daily Pep with some hope. Because I don't know about you, but sometimes it feels like we're in very short supply of it. It can be really easy if you're very online like I am to fall in into thinking that absolutely everything is really and truly shitty. Now I'm not gonna lie. There are a lot of very truly shitty things happening in the world. That is a massive understatement. But one of the things I think that can get lost along the way is the inherent goodness in a lot of people.
This reminds me of that mister Rogers quote. When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping. Now I know around here, a lot of us are the helpers, and we don't need to be reminded to help other people. If anything, we need to be reminded that we matter too and to look after ourselves. But I wanted to share this with you today because it is all too easy to get sucked into the very real doom of the world. It is very easy to think that we are all going to hell in a hand basket and that goodness has left the world entirely. And if that's where you are right now, I really encourage you to intentionally go and seek out the good news, to intentionally look for signs of hope, and to really notice when people are being decent human beings.
Now don't get me wrong. Our bar does not have to be that low. But see if you can find some random acts of kindness and things that show you that there really are good eggs out there. When things feel this dark, we need lightness and hope more than ever. So I also wanted to remind you that it is okay to find joy in dark times. It does not make you selfish. You keeping your own light lit is really, really damn important and that you can only do your best. And your best will look different every day, and it might look a lot different right now, and that's okay.
So I am sending you so much love, so many signs of hope, and I hope you come across some good eggs this week that remind you that there is good in the world and start to counteract the darkness. Keep being you. Keep going. And know that you being exactly who you are right now makes the world a brighter place in and of itself whether you know it or not. See you tomorrow.

1272: Missing your creativity? I've got a spoiler for you!
If you wish you had more time to be creative or you're beating yourself up about a creative project, this one's for you!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, daily peppers, and a very happy Wednesday to you. It is hump day, and we are nearly halfway through the week. At the moment, I'm partway through launching my new thing, which is the rebel artist's way. And naturally, it's got me thinking a lot about creativity. Now for most of us around here, we identify as creative. And if we don't, then chances are we probably would like to. But I think one thing is nearly a % true. And that is that we all wish we had more time to be creative or explore our creativity in the first place. So today, I simply wanna remind you that you already are creative. It takes a shitload of creativity to get through each day to navigate the good and the hard times and also just to be alive in this world. It might not look like you're getting your paints out or writing but figuring out how you're gonna pay the rent next month, navigating a difficult conversation, or even just figuring out what to make for dinner, it's all using that creativity muscle. For so many of us, there can be massive amounts of resistance to sitting down to do something creative because it's been so long, and we wonder whether we still got it or if we had it to begin with. And I hope this reframe is a bit of reassurance for you today. Creativity comes in so many different forms. And the bit that I'm really passionate about is creating a life you love because it really does take so much creativity to figure out what you want, to figure out how to get there, and to figure out how to keep going along the way. So you may not feel like the world's most creative person, but you don't need to be because you're doing it anyway whether you know it or not. So if you have complicated feelings about how much you haven't been creating lately, if the resistance is truly there, and if you've beaten yourself up about it because that is what a lot of us tend to do around here, I just invite you to think about it a bit differently. Often, what we typically tend to see as creative is one of the first things that tends to go when we're in survival mode. But I would argue that, actually, surviving survival mode can be the absolute epitome of creativity. So that is something for you to noodle on today. If you really wanna discover and recover your creative self, a quick heads up that the early bird offer for the rebel artist way ends tomorrow. And the promo code is in the show notes. And it is gonna be an absolute game changer if one of the things you wanna focus on this year is working on yourself and working on your creativity, getting unblocked, and creating a life you love. And you can find out more and get all the details by going to the rebelrousers.com/rebelartistsway. Have a good one. I'll see you tomorrow. And keep creating, even if you know you are or not.

1271: It's okay to have an average day
Today I'm giving you permission to take the day off trying to be the very best version of yourself, and reminding you to give yourself grace for being human!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Tuesday to you. So here on the Daily Pep, it's all about doing the thing, it's all about getting shit done, it's all about creating a life you love, and it's about doing it with a shitload of compassion. And sometimes that looks like like admitting that not every day is gonna be the best day. Around here, we are doers. We like to optimize stuff. We are often time optimists, and we try and make the best out of everything.
And today, I just wanted to pop in and give you permission to not always optimize stuff because you get to have off days. We all have off days.
We also get to have meh days and days that are pretty unremarkable and days that we're not feeling that great. And that's not about you doing something wrong. That is just simply part of the human experience. But so often, we jump right ahead into how to fix that rather than giving ourselves grace and the compassion to feel what we're actually feeling. It's okay to be grumpy. It's okay to be moany. And it really is okay to have days where you feel like you can't be fucked and to half ass everything. I've been at this hole working with and coaching multi passionate and creative women for over a decade now.
And at some point, nearly everybody shares this fear they have that they're actually inherently lazy. And I just wanna call bullshit, and in the nicest possible way, tell you that you're not the exception to this rule. Those of us who worry about being lazy are usually the least lazy people. We also tend to be so fucking hard on ourselves. And maybe what you're reading as lazy is just being pretty bloody exhausted. And for good reason too. So today, while I do hope you find some unexpected joy, I wish you an average day. Give yourself permission to feel what you feel, to not try to optimize everything, and not be the very best version of yourself.
Hindsight is a strange bastard because you'll look back on this moment now and have so much respect and admiration for the courage and the stamina and persistence that you do have even if you can't see it right now. And if you can't imagine that, let's just try and believe that to be true and see if you can tell yourself that you're actually doing a good job right now as you are. So that is today's daily pep. And as always, I love being in your ears every weekday morning. A quick friendly reminder before we end that if developing and working on your creativity or your creative practice, whether you feel blocked or you've never had one, is on your priority list for this year, my new group program, The Rebels Artist's Way, might be right up your street.
The link is in the show notes. It's therebelrousers.com/rebelartistsway. And if you sign up by the end of Thursday using the promo code, capital letters, SASSY10, you get £10 off each of your monthly payments. So if you've been meaning to check that out, this is your friendly reminder. And I would fucking love to have you along for the ride. See you tomorrow.

1270: It’s quick wins week!
Let’s ditch the shame and get into action! This week we’re celebrating the quick wins!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Monday to you. Two quick things before we begin. One, I am very glad to be back after having a stinker of a cold and a sore throat last week. So that's why last week were all reprise episodes. And number two, I'm currently launching something I am ridiculously excited about. Around here, so many of us have wanted to and tried to do the artist's way by Julia Cameron, but never quite succeeded. So I decided we're gonna do it together, and we're gonna do it rebel style. We get started next Thursday.
We have a fabulous group so far, and I've also got an early bird offer on. So if you sign up by this Thursday, you can take off £10 from each monthly payment by entering the promo code, which is all caps, Sassy 10. You can find out more by going to the rebelrousers.com/rebelartistsway and the link for that and also the promo code is in the show notes. Now on to today's show. So behind the scenes, I've been trying to get my ducks and fucks in a row a bit more. I knew that when we press pause on the traveling thing, one of the things I really wanted to do was get things more sustainable and build firmer foundations. So me and mister Merrick sat down last week and collated all the various tasks and things that we need to do when it comes to the business, my website, the podcasts, my programs, my products into one place. Now while it was satisfying to get them out of all these different notebooks and emails and Google Docs, I'm not gonna lie.
It was quite overwhelming. And I could feel myself getting really caught up in how on earth we were gonna start. I wanted to find the most logical place. I wanted to put everything into order. And, essentially, I wanted to find the, quote, right way to do it. But what I ended up doing was turning that into a project, and I got even more overwhelmed than when I started. So we're taking a different tack, and it's something I'm really excited to share with you because I wanna invite you to do it along with us. So I decided fuck finding the right place to start and start with the easiest bits.
So this week over here, we are having quick wins week. We are starting anywhere in any order, and we've gone through the list and figured out which are gonna be the things that we can just knock off the list and would just feel really good to get done. One of the things I tell my coaching clients all the time that I often forget myself is that action begets action, and starting anywhere is what brings some momentum. Doing quick wins also helps you move through the resistance, and it also gives you a bit of a confidence boost and satisfaction, which I know we're all craving more of. So if you've got a load of fuckers that you need to get done join me this week on our quick wins week. We're not going to judge ourselves for how long they've been sat there. We're going to give ourselves grace if they go from little fuckers to big fuckers And we're just gonna see how many gold stars we can give ourselves because rarely in life is there truly a perfect way to start. And we can spend and we can waste a hell of a lot of time coming up with this ideal system that doesn't even necessarily work when rubber hits the road.
So here's to quick wins week. Here's to figuring it out along the way. And here's to also giving ourselves the gold stars. I've got this. You've got this. We've got this. So let's get going.

1262: What could you do with twenty minutes?
For this hump-day episode, I have a quest for you, and it might be slightly different to what you’re expecting!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Wednesday to you. So today I have a question for you and it is this. If you were magically given fifteen minutes a day extra, what would you do with it? Now around here, we talk a lot about getting shit done. So you might be thinking that today's episode is all about just getting the fucker done and finding that twenty minutes in which to do it. But it's not. So don't worry. I'm not gonna try and make you do something you don't wanna do or you're resisting. But I do want you to think for a second about what you would do with that time.
I want you to imagine that it is guilt free, remembering that twenty minutes doesn't feel like a lot of time. But if you think about sitting through a sitcom you really don't like or if, like me, you struggle to meditate, twenty minutes can actually be quite a long chunk of time. And I want you to think about what you would like to do with that time. Is there anything that you wish you had more time for? Is there anything that feels really indulgent? Or is there something that you really wanna do that somehow just ends up on the bottom of your list? By now, you've probably thought of at least one thing. So when we tend to talk about time, we tend to think about what we don't have. We tend to think about how much we wish we had more of it, and we tend to think about all the things we have to do and how on earth we're gonna do them. And like I alluded to earlier, we also tend to be at the very bottom of our own list. So my challenge for you for the rest of this week is this.
See where you can find that twenty minutes and see if you can give yourself permission to do that thing. Now I know all of us have wildly different context and circumstances. We have varying levels of control over our times. We have varying levels of responsibilities. But if you got creative and if you got curious, I'm pretty sure you can find at least one twenty minute chunk before the end of the week that you would love to do if someone magically gave you twenty minutes? Remember, it doesn't have to be the perfect twenty minutes, and it doesn't have to be something that you have to commit to on a regular basis. I just want you to take it as an experiment and as a bit of a quest. Can you find twenty minutes for yourself this week, and can you use them for yourself? So that is the one thing that I want you to look out for as you go around your day to day. Where could you squeeze that twenty minutes in? Is there maybe a habit that you wanna stop doing more of that you can do a bit less of? Is there a cheeky window where you can squeeze it in? It might be uncomfortable.
It might involve asking somebody to do something for you or asking for help. And if twenty minutes is absolutely impossible, see if you can aim for just three. Get curious, get creative, and know that you are worthy of your own time.

1260: Thank f*ck it's February!
Today on the Daily Pep! we're drawing a line in the sand, throwing a middle finger to the practice month known as January, and compassionately moving onwards and upwards.
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers and a very happy Monday to you And a very happy fucking February to you. I, for one, am so relieved to see the back of January. And I think that today's daily pep, we use it as a time to draw the line in the sand that January was the hangover month. It was the practice month. And that we quit beating ourselves up about how well it did or didn't go. Now this is not about piling all the pressure on for this new month. It's just about saying, fuck it. What's happened has happened, and onwards and upwards.
Now I know we have mixed feelings about setting goals and intentions around here. But if you wanna borrow a really helpful one, here is one to really help you this month, and it is to do things for future you. Sometimes that does look like saying, okay. I can't do that, and I just need to go rest. And other times, that looks like saying, do you know what? While I really don't wanna do this right now, future me is gonna be so damn grateful. And this is gonna be such a gift. So here's to a new month. Here's to saying a hearty fuck off to the 10000 days of January.
And here's to remembering that you've got your own back because you really, honestly do. I'll see you tomorrow.
