1464: Some lovingly bossy homework
Bossy Meg is back and today we’re wrapping up this week on the Daily Pep! with a reminder that we all need time to just be human.
Episode transcript:
Good morning Daily Peppers and a very happy Friday to you. So today's episode is a really practical one. So I kicked off this week by declaring that we can all say fuck it, to ending the year strong. And, and believe me, I am not changing my mind on that. If anything, today we are doubling down because I want you to look at your calendar for the rest of the year and figure out when you are blocking some time off for you because in the run up to Christmas and in the next kind of six weeks, everything just starts getting quite chaotic. It can all go by in a bit of a blur. We end up over committing and saying yes to way too many things and we can end up resentful and exhausted. And if we do have any time to take off over the holidays, it ends up being recovery time rather than resting time.
And that is if that's even a possibility in the first place. So to all of my self employed friends, I want to make sure that you have got some time booked off and I seriously mean off. I know it can be tempting to do a little bit here and there, but for our work, wherever possible, I know this year has been a wild one for business. We need to be able to have some time where we can just be the human. Not the worker, not the CEO, not the freelancer. We just need some time to be human. And if we're working for ourselves, we don't necessarily have accountability or the structure to get the dates in. So this is me bossily telling you to, to do that now, now if you're not self employed, don't run your own business.
There are a myriad of situations that we could be in and I'm not going to go into all of them because I'm really worried I'm going to leave one out. But whatever our situation, I also think it's important to look at kind of the months ahead and look at kind of how spread out or how compact things are and really build in some rest. Now might be a really good time to start negotiating when it comes to what things you do want to do and what things you want to say no to. If you buy gifts, how you can make that as simple as possible. But if gifts are your love language, by all means go wild. But I think it can just be really helpful to take a bit of a moment before the festive fuckery begins to situate yourself to see what kind of a season it is for you, what you need to say no to, what you'd like to say no to, and also what you'd really like to make space for and to say yes to. Because whatever situation we're in, chances are no one else is going to keep us accountable for prioritizing ourselves or putting our needs on the table. So this is your bossy homework to do.
So carve out some time this weekend. Know that no matter what it looks like on the outside, nobody has a Hallmark family Christmas. See if you can open up some spaces on your calendar to just be because this season is a lot, and I'm pretty sure your future self is going to be really damn grateful that you did this. So you've got your homework, you got through the week. Now let's put your needs back on the table. Have a good one, and I look forward to being back with you here on the Daily Prep on Monday or in your inbox on Sunday for my Letter of Rebellion. And if you want to join but haven't already, you can find out how to do that in the show notes or by going to thereebelrousers.com/letters either way, I look forward to seeing you then. And Happy Friday.
