If you struggle with the idea of ease or taking shortcuts, today's episode is for you!

Episode transcript:

Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Wednesday to you. Now, like many of us, I grew up with this belief system that in order for something to be worth it, you have to really struggle for it. And that anything good in life is really hard to achieve. Now today we're not necessarily throwing that completely out the window but we are inviting a bit more ease into our lives. Because part of the problem with that belief system is that we believe that unless we really struggled or went through pain to get something, then we're not worthy of the reward. And if something wasn't really, really hard, then it just doesn't count. And as I'm saying this out loud and probably as you're hearing this as well, we can both admit that that doesn't sound that healthy. Now, of course, there are things in life that are gonna be shit, and we will have to go through tough things, and we have been.

We all know that. But I think we could also have a much better time of it by inviting ease to the party as well, by taking shortcuts that are so easy it feels like cheating, by taking small incremental steps that just feel easy, and by giving ourselves evidence that we can make progress and we can do epic shit in a way that feels good and doesn't put us through hell and back. Now, of course, that doesn't apply to all life situations. Not everything can be made fun. Not everything can be made easy. But I think a lot of the day to day choices we make, well, they can benefit from a bit of joy and also some strategic shortcuts. So as you go about your day to day, I want you to try and take notice of things that you do every day and if there is an easier way to do them. Not everything deserves a % of your focus or a % of your effort.

You can absolutely half ass a lot of things that aren't that important, and you might be pleasantly surprised. Now to be clear, this is not about optimizing every minute of your life so you can be more productive, But it is trying to make things a little bit better for you so you can have more joy and you can get back some of that precious time and energy. It might be something as simple as choosing new clothes and putting them out the night before so it frees you up a bit of mental space in the morning. It could be putting your favorite CD in the car rather than just sticking with the one that's been in there for months or even just using the notes app on your phone a bit more so you don't have to keep everything in your head all the time and you can be a bit more present. I know these things sound simple and quite basic, but it's usually these things that we tend to overlook that can make quite a big difference. So have a think about what your own shortcuts and what your own joy injections look like. Happy hump day and I can't wait to be back with you tomorrow.
